This lovely velvet dress is so much prettier in person, the photos really don't do it justice!
The dress was handmade in the 1960s by Vivian Lafave. There is no size indicated on the tag, my estimate is that it would best fit modern sizes 8-10. Please see measurements below to guarantee fit.
The shell fabric of the dress is velvet with a beautiful abstract pattern on it. The colors range from black, plum, and taupe with flecks of metallic gold throughout. (Velvet is tricky to photograph, the pattern is quite stunning in real life.) The dress is lined with lightweight black polyester. There is no stretch to this fabric. There is princess seaming throughout the entire length of the dress, both front and back. The scoop neck and princess seaming create a very sexy and flattering silhouette that hugs your curves in all the right ways. The dress closes up the back with a 21 inch zipper.
There is a sweet message on the tag that says "Made especially for you by Vivian Lafave". It appears that Vivian never finished the dress because the hem is still pinned to be sewn. The unfinished hem gives you the opportunity to shorten the dress if desired.
This item is in excellent vintage condition and would be perfect for the holiday season! Pair with tights and tall boots for every day wear, or this dress could even be worn as a costume! (Think Mad Men or Edie Sedgwick!)
