RESERVED-1930s Phone Cord Handbag with Colorful Art Deco Design and Braided Strap

Own a piece of fashion history with this fabulous true vintage handbag!

This purse was made during the 1930s. It is constructed from a thick canvas fabric that is embellished with colorful telephone cords!

During war times leather was scarce, so apparel and accessory manufacturers had to get creative with the materials that were available to them. Telephone cords were used to replace leather trims and decorative beading. Most phone cord handbags used standard white cords, this rare purse has cords of blue, yellow, green, white, and red! The cords were meticulously arranged in a striking art deco design that really catches the eye!
The colorful telephone cords were braided together to create the handle. You can really see and feel the beautiful craftsmanship and attention to detail that was put into the making of this handbag.

A folded “collar” decorates the top portion of the purse and disguises the zipper opening. A red cord loop is attached to the zipper pull, what a fun little detail! The zipper opens up to reveal a clean lining with a small pocket inside, perfect for a credit cards, etc.

The bag stands up nicely on it’s own. The base measures 8 inches by 2 inches. The body of the bag is 10 inches wide by 6 inches tall. The handle strap hangs approximately 7 inches long. It is large enough to hold your cell phone, wallet contents, and all the purse necessities.

There is some slight color fading of the fabric around the zipper, but over all this piece is in excellent vintage condition! There are no holes or stains, and it was stored in a smoke-free environment. The bag is perfectly wearable for every day life, or could be used as part of a costume for a 1930s era film!
