This fabulous little vintage basket purse is Springtime perfection!
It was designed by Mr. Jonas in Hong Kong during the early 1960s. It is constructed primarily from plastic coated wicker, with genuine leather and brass hardware.
The exterior of the bag is made of an off-white woven wicker with a protective plastic coating. A row of three diamond-shaped brown leather embellishments decorate the font of the purse. These leather pieces have brass studs keeping them in place and also add a bit of extra visual interest. This piece would look amazing paired with a pretty sun dress, or could even be used in a mid-century themed theater or film production!
The body of the purse measures 12 inches wide, by 9 inches tall, and 3.5 inches deep. The purse opens calm-shell style with a brass turnkey clasp to reveal a brown cotton lining. There are 2 pockets on the inside. One is open, and the other is a zip pocket to store cards, cash, etc. This purse is more than large enough to hold all of the daily essentials. The lining is rather clean and shows little signs of age, with the exception of a small dime-sized hole. It is not all that noticeable and could easily be stitched up for a quick DIY project.
The purse has brass and leather feet on the bottom so it stands up nicely on its own, and the leather handles are in great shape. Over all this handbag is in very good vintage condition. There are no stains or broken reeds, and it was stored in a smoke-free environment.
